Presbyterians: Cut off aid to Israel unless

Leaders of the U.S. Presbyterian Church are scheduled to vote on a denomination-wide recommendation that the United States cut off aid to Israel unless that country stops settlement expansions in occupied Palestinian territories.

The measure is up for a vote Friday at the Presbyterians' General Assembly in Minneapolis. It's drawn wide criticism from pro-Israeli groups, and earlier this week a Presbyterian committee removed some parts of the measure that most angered such groups.

The 2 million-member Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has seen a tense relationship with Jewish groups dating to 2004, when that year's General Assembly voted to draw down selected investments in multinational corporations that operated in Israel over that country's policies toward Palestinians.
