Russian Christians, Jews call for Holocaust memorial day

Christians and Jews called on Russia to establish a national Holocaust memorial day.

Christian and Jewish organizations issued a joint statement Thursday calling for the commemoration of Holocaust victims and the establishment of memorials in places of mass killings of Jew, the Russian International News Service reported.

The statement followed a roundtable discussion to establish dialogue between representatives of the two religions.

"The participants of the roundtable declare that further Jewish-Christian dialogue should be open, trust-based, long-term and be translated into practical activity, which is able to strengthen the tolerance of Russian society," the statement said.
