Using the Holocaust to Attack the Jews

Are all those who have accused Israel of being a Nazi state anti-Semites? Hardly. Walter Reich opines that the Holocaust is now being used to criticize Israel, not to defend it. From the former director of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum:

Dozens of cities held ceremonies last week to mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day. The good news is that the dead were remembered. The bad news is that even as the Holocaust is becoming a fixture in the world's memory, it is also being increasingly used as a weapon against the Jews and the Jewish state.

For some, ironically, the acknowledgment of the Holocaust's reality has become a screen behind which anti-Semitism has gathered new force. The hard-core Jew-haters spent decades denying that the best-documented genocide in world history ever took place. That won them such derision that even many anti-Semites have begun to admit the reality of the Holocaust -- and now are hoping that simply by doing so, they can immunize themselves from the charge that they're anti-Semites in the first place. How can you be an anti-Semite, they figure, if you recognize the Holocaust?

But as some people who don't like Jews have found, it's worth acknowledging the Holocaust if you can then turn it into a cudgel against the Jews. And that they've done, in spades. According to this crowd, the Jews today have become Nazis. The Jewish state is now supposedly carrying out a Holocaust against the Palestinians. Jews, the haters say, have always been evil, and their evil is only growing.

Of course, not all criticisms of Israel are the product of such bigoted logic. People of good will around the world are naturally shocked by the tragic and appalling deaths of Palestinian civilians, including those killed in the recent war in the Gaza Strip. Like any country, Israel can be criticized. But the massive and unceasing eruptions of outrage against the Jewish state -- in a world in which other countries and groups have, often provoking barely any outrage, engaged in immensely more destructive and immoral behavior -- can only be explained in a few ways. One is that attacking Israel has become a means of attacking Israel's ally, the United States. Another is that over-the-top attacks on Israel, particularly those invoking Holocaust language, have become a means of once again attacking the Jews.

The Anti-Defamation League has documented the way this weapon was used during the recent war with Hamas. Here are a few of the placards spotted at rallies: In Times Square, the group reported such signs as, "Israel: The Fourth Reich," "Stop Israel's Holocaust," "Holocaust by Holocaust Survivors," "Stop the Nazi Genocide in Gaza" and "Nazi Genocide, Israeli Genocide." In Chicago: "Palestinian Holocaust in Gaza Now." In a Los Angeles demonstration, the Star of David in an Israeli flag was said to have been replaced by a swastika, accompanied by the words, "Upgrade to Holocaust Version 2.0." In San Diego: "Stop the Israeli Holocaust on Gaza." And the league reported that one rally in Washington included an effigy of the Israeli prime minister wearing a swastika armband and holding a dead baby.

The Gaza war provoked similar attacks from some world leaders and people of influence. "The Holocaust, that is what is happening right now in Gaza," Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said in televised comments, according to Reuters. The New York Times quoted a Catholic cardinal who argued that Gaza increasingly "resembled a big concentration camp." And according to the Jerusalem Post, a Norwegian diplomat based in Saudi Arabia sent out an e-mail from her Foreign Ministry account in which she wrote, "The grandchildren of Holocaust survivors from World War II are doing to the Palestinians exactly what was done to them by Nazi Germany." She reportedly also attached paired photos designed to suggest that Gaza was equivalent to the Holocaust: Next to the iconic photo of the Jewish child in the Warsaw Ghetto being menaced by a rifle-toting Nazi soldier, the diplomat is said to have placed an "image of an Israeli soldier aiming his weapon at a Palestinian boy."

Are all those who have accused Israel of being a Nazi state anti-Semites? Hardly. There's genuine anger in the Muslim world, as well as in Europe and elsewhere, about Israel's actions in Gaza. The suffering is terrible. So are the images of devastation Israel left behind. And there are also plenty of people who are angry at Israel because it stands for the reviled United States.

But the reality is that much of the vitriol directed at Israel has indeed been spouted by anti-Semites. Not only have they hurled the Nazi canard at Israel, they've expressed clear anti-Semitism -- some of it openly violent or even eliminationist. The pro-Israel but reliable Middle East Media and Research Institute has been documenting anti-Semitism on Palestinian television for years, including calls for the murder of Jews. It reports that, the day before International Holocaust Remembrance Day, one Egyptian cleric admitted on an Islamist TV channel that the Holocaust had happened -- and added that he hoped that one day Muslims would do to the Jews what the Germans had done to them. To demonstrate what he had in mind, according to the institute, he showed footage of heaps of Jewish corpses being bulldozed into pits.

In designating an International Holocaust Remembrance Day back in 2005, the U.N. General Assembly acted with noble intentions, even if parts of the world body still aim to delegitimize Israel. Such commemorations help the world understand that the goal of the Holocaust was the annihilation of an entire people -- and help them appreciate the vast differences between that event and, for example, the war in Gaza. But even as the Holocaust has been increasingly acknowledged and explained, it also has been increasingly used as a cudgel to beat Jews and the Jewish state.

Germany's Jews cut ties with Vatican as British bishop row escalates

Germany's Jewish community cut ties to the Vatican on Thursday as the decision to rehabilitate a British bishop who questioned the Nazi's use of gas chambers escalated into an international crisis.

Pope Benedict XVI's decision to lift the excommunication of Richard Williamson, who insists that a maximum of 300,000 Jews were killed by Hitler's regime, has plunged relations between the Vatican and Jewish groups to a new low.

Charlotte Knobloch, head of Germany's Central Council of Jews, said she was withdrawing from a scheduled dialogue with Catholic leaders, while both France and Britain criticised the Pope's actions.

"Under such conditions there will certainly be no conversation between the Church and me at the moment – but I stress 'at the moment'," Ms Knobloch said.

She added she could not believe the Pope's decision was the result of an oversight.

"The Pope is one of the most well-educated and intelligent people that the Catholic Church has and every word he speaks, he means," she said.

France's minister for Europe said the Pope had made a serious error in lifting the excommunication.

Bruno Le Maire, a practising Catholic, said: "I believe that it was a mistake to forgive so easily and to rehabilitate a bishop who has denied the existence of gas chambers and who said so very clearly."

The Pontiff's decision was also condemned by members of all parties during a House of Commons debate on Tuesday.

Sadiq Khan, a junior Communities Minister, said the move was "highly unsavoury" and of "great concern".

"The fact that somebody who can deny that the holocaust took place can hold high office, can be invited to august institutions to debate this, causes me great concern. Many MPs will ... find the promotion of such a person highly unsavoury," he said.

"Let's be clear those who deny the holocaust aren't pseudo-historians who are revising history. Some of their views ... demonstrate anti-Semitism. We can't pretend the holocaust didn't happen.''

Bishop Williamson's inflammatory views that historical accounts of the Holocaust are "lies, lies, lies" were repeated most recently in an interview aired last week on Swedish television.

He and three other rehabilitated bishops are members of the Swiss-based "Lefebvrist" fraternity, which rejected the Vatican's liberal reforms of the 1960s, including a declaration that Jews are the "older brothers" of Christians.

The order was thrown into fresh controversy yesterday when one of its leaders in Italy, Floriano Abrahamowicz, whose father was Jewish, also questioned whether the Nazis used gas chambers to exterminate Jews.

"I know that the gas chambers existed at least for disinfection, but I cannot say if they were used to kill people or not," said Father Abrahamowicz, who heads the Society of Saint Pius X in the north-east of Italy.

The number of Jews reported killed by the Nazis in concentration camps came from information given to the Allies at the end of the war by German Jewish leaders and was open to doubt, he said.

A senior Jewish leader from Israel said the Pope's assurances of his "solidarity" with the Jewish people, delivered during an address on Wednesday, had failed to heal the rift.

"The harm is not yet fully repaired," Rabbi David Rosen, who heads the International Jewish Committee for Inter-religious Consultations, told La Repubblica.

He called for Bishop Williamson, who lives in Argentina, to issue an immediate apology and to recant his views.

The Pope's explanation that he had lifted the 1988 excommunication of Williamson, along with three other bishops from the conservative Society of Saint Pius X, out of "paternal mercy" failed to assuage politicians or Jewish leaders.

The row came as Europe earlier this week commemorated the 64th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.

Israeli bloggers join Israel's media propaganda blitz.

Sayanim Bloggers join media war

Some 1,000 new immigrants and foreign-language-speaking Jews volunteer to army of bloggers set up by Absorption Ministry and Foreign Ministry with the stated objective of flooding blogs with pro-Israel opinions

Arye Sharuz-Shalicar, 31, whose parents emigrated from Iran to Germany, is a one-man PR show. He speaks Persian, German, English, French, and Spanish and can also get by in Russian, Turkish, Arabic, and Italian.

Sharuz-Shalicar is one of the front-line soldiers in the Ministry of Absorption's new "army of bloggers" that was recently established in cooperation with the Foreign Ministry's public relations department following Operation Cast Lead in the Gaza Strip.

The Absorption Ministry is recruiting new immigrants and Jews living abroad who have access to a computer and who speak a second language to a volunteer effort to improve public relations for Israel on the internet. The campaign was launched last week.

In the cross hairs are problematic blogs, talkbacks, online social networks, online polls, Youtube videos, and more.

The ministry was amazed by the massive response to the effort. More than 1,000 interested applicants contacted them, of which 350 are Russian speakers, 250 English speakers, 150 Spanish speakers, 100 French speakers, and 50 German speakers.

A range of other European languages are also represented among the volunteers: Portuguese, Swedish, Dutch, Italian, Romanian, Hungarian, Polish, Greek, Bulgarian, and Danish. Persian-, Turkish-, and Arabic-speaking Jews also offered their services. The ministry even got an application from a Chinese speaker.

Some 60% of the applicants are immigrants, old and new. The rest are Jews living in the Diaspora, Israelis living abroad, and even non-Jews who support Israel and want to help out.

The Absorption Ministry forwarded the volunteers' details to the Foreign Ministry, which briefed them via email and provided up-to-date material on the situation, including video clips that could help them in the field.

While the Absorption Ministry is tasked with recruitment, the Foreign Ministry will be responsible for directing the volunteers online. Each time the ministry identifies an anti-Israel trend on a foreign-language blog, news site, or other website, it will immediately put out a message to the volunteers to flood the site with pro-Israel opinions.

Ahmadinejad slams ban on Holocaust probe

President Ahmadinejad slams the West for blocking research on the Holocaust.
Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says Western countries have blocked research on the Holocaust to achieve their political objectives.

"Western countries have prevented any kind of research on the Holocaust for almost 60 years to maintain their dominance over other nations," President Ahmadinejad said in a written message to a conference on the Holocaust on Tuesday.

The Holocaust - as defined by the West - has been used as a tool for countries including the US to prevent the emergence of any other power in the world, the message added.

President Ahmadinejad has been accused of harboring ill-will towards Israel and his criticism of European laws which ban research on the Holocaust.

The President however said in a September interview with CNN's Larry King that he saw a line between Zionism and Judaism.

"Iranians have nothing against the Jewish people or their religion," President Ahmadinejad said. "How can you be religious and kill women and children at the same time?" he argued.

In the interview, President Ahmadinejad also added that the Israeli regime would disappear in the same way as apartheid South Africa and the Soviet Union.

Iranian officials have repeatedly maintained that they do not recognize Israel and have condemned West's 'support' of Tel Aviv.

Chief Rabbinate of Israel cuts ties with Vatican over Holocaust bishop

The Chief Rabbinate of Israel has cut ties with the Vatican over the Pope’s decision to lift the excommunication of an English bishop who denies the full extent of the Holocaust.

In a measure of Jewish anger around the world at the reinstating of the four bishops of the Society of St Pius X, the Chief Rabbinate has written to the office of Pope Benedict XVI condemning Bishop Richard Williamson’s comments as outrageous. The letter was leaked to The Jerusalem Post. Jewish leaders in the UK have also protested at the lifting of the excommunications but others criticised the Chief Rabbinate’s decision, saying it could harm interfaith dialogue.

Bishop Williamson, who was educated at Winchester and Cambridge and converted to Catholicism as a young man, told Swedish television that no Jews died in gas chambers, and that up to 300,000 died in the Holocaust. Historians generally accept that six million Jews died.

According to the English-language Jerusalem Post, the Chief Rabbinate also cancelled a meeting with the Holy See’s commission for religious relations with the Jews. The Pope yesterday reaffirmed his “full and unquestionable solidarity with Jews”. The German pontiff said that as the world marked Holocaust Day on Tuesday: “I recall the images of my visits to Auschwitz and the testimonies of the innocent victims of racial hatred.”

The Society of St Pius X was founded by the French Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre in opposition to the liberalisation of the Church in the 1960s. At least 600,000 Catholics are thought to attend its traditionalist Masses worldwide.

Pope Benedict has for years been keen to see these Catholics brought back into the fold, and last year reinstated the Tridentine Rite to placate them. That provoked outrage from the Jewish community because the rite includes a Good Friday prayer for the conversion of the Jews.

Bishop Williamson is being investigated in Germany for Holocaust denial after his Swedish TV interview. He could face a prison sentence of up to five years.

In the interview he said: “The historical evidence is hugely against six million Jews having been deliberately gassed in gas chambers as a deliberate policy of Adolf Hitler. I believe there were no gas chambers.”

Bishop Bernard Fellay, the superior-general of the Society of Saint Pius X, condemned the interview as vile.

Despite widespread voices of condemnation from within the Jewish community, some leading British Jews questioned the Chief Rabbinate’s decision to cut ties.

Sir Sigmund Sternberg, a pioneer of interfaith dialogue, said: “As one who has struggled for many years to keep doors open and to pursue the resolution of dispute and conflict by dialogue, I see little merit, whatever the provocation, of freezing a relationship which so clearly needs clarification and discussion.”

The Pope is due to visit Israel in May. So far, the Israeli Government has said that the visit will go ahead.

Obama And Israel’s Plan For Ethnic Cleansing

THE TRANSFER & ANNIHILATION OF ARABS in Palestine has been the continuing policy of Zionist Jews since the late 1800’s. And in very recent days with Israel’s invasion of Gaza, the Israeli policy of “ethnic cleansing” has been displayed to the entire world in all of its horrific manifestations.

Obama, in a recent interview on January 26, 2009, with the Saudi-owned Al-Arabiya TV network, reiterated the US “commitment to Israel as an ally and to its right to defend itself.”

And in her first news conference on January 27, 2009, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton stated that “America supports Israel’s right to self-defense.” Clinton added that “the rocket barrages which are getting closer and closer to populated areas in Israel cannot go unanswered.”

But to their shame, neither Obama nor Clinton, (both controlled by Jewish votes & money), said nothing regarding Israel “defending itself” against Arab children in Gaza in their “answer” to alleged rocket barrages.

Bringing Israel’s ethnic cleansing policy even more up-to date, on January 26, 2009, Likud leader, Benjamin Netanyahu, promised a Tel Aviv Women’s Network Group that he would expand Israeli settlements in the West Bank if elected premier. Netanyahu said he would allow the settlements to expand to accommodate “natural growth” which he defined as referring to building new housing to accommodate growing families among the settlers.

ZIONISM = ETHNIC CLEANSING

THE ZIONIST ENTERPRIZE HAD CALLED FOR THE ANNIHILATION of the indigenous Palestinian population in its very foundations. Beginning with Zionism’s founder, Theodore Herzl called for an enforced separation of Arabs from Zionist Jews in the late 1880’s:

“It is best to spirit the penniless Palestinian population across the borders by denying it any employment in our own country.” View Entire Story Here.

It was Israel’s first Prime Minister, David Ben Gurion, who in 1948, expanded on Herzl’s enforced separation, by covertly promoting an agenda of ethnic cleansing:

“The UN partition of a Jewish State being offered to us is not the Zionist objective. Within this area it is not possible to reach our historic goal. But it can serve as a decisive stage along the path to a greater Zionist implementation.” View Entire Story Here.

And in foreshadowing of what had recently occurred in Gaza, in 1967, Ben Gurion overtly stated the means by which the Zionist historical goal would be implemented:

“We must use terror, assassination, intimidation, land confiscation, and the cutting of all social services to rid Palestine of its Arab population.” View Entire Story Here & Here.

In his highly acclaimed book, The Ethnic Cleansing Of Palestine, Ilan Pappe, gives an account of the very first Arab village in Palestine to be ethnically cleansed. Lifta was a large rural village just north of Jerusalem, home to 2,500 Arabs, both Muslims & Christians.

Armed with machine guns, the Israeli Hagana attacked the village, unprovoked, spraying the village coffee house, while members of the terrorist Stern Gang, (Rahm Emanuel’s father belonged to this group), ran through the village firing indiscriminately at Arab residents. Just prior to the attack, the Stern Gang had issued pamphlets to its activists: “Destroy Arab neighborhoods and punish Arab villages.” View Entire Story Here.

‘CLEANSING’ GAZA

DURING ISRAEL’S 22 DAY assault of Gaza, 1,414 Palestinians - among them more than 419 children - were slaughtered. Many Arab children have facial scars resulting from Israel’s use of illegal phosphorus bombs that have left the children writhing in pain.

The opening salvo of Israel’s assault on the 1.5 million residents of Gaza had as its ultimate goal the dismantling of the government infrastructure of Gaza. Israeli leaders had indicated in the months preceding the Gaza invasion that any facility, institution, or person linked to the resistance movement would be considered fair game. This threat effectively placed all Gazan inhabitants as targets for Israeli weaponry. View Entire Story Here.

Now, in the aftermath of Israel’s Gazan venture, Israeli youth are being taught to hate their Arab neighbors and co-residents. “Death To The Arabs!” 800 Israeli high school teenagers chanted in response to an address by Israel’s religious-Zionist Meimad Party leader, Rabbi Michael Melchior, on January 22, 2009.

While the world remains in shock over Israel’s brutal slaughter of innocents in Gaza, the Israeli population (and World Jewry) brush aside concerns about civilian causalities and accounts of Palestinian suffering. And as Rense.com political analyst, Terrell E Arnold, recently pointed out, Obama remains silent…

ISRAEL TESTS US WEAPONS ON ARAB CHILDREN

WITH WAR CRIME ACCUSATIONS documented & mounting against Israel, including Amnesty International’s call for a full investigation of Israeli atrocities, it has come to light that Israel has turned Gaza into a research laboratory to test newly received US weapons.

After working for 10 days at the Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, Dr Mads Gilbert, a member of a Norwegian medical team, told reporters that a US-made lethal weapon that is highly carcinogenic, called Dense Inert Metal Explosives (DIME), was being used on Gazan civilians:

“DIME has biological effects on those who are either hit by the weapon or are in proximity of its denotation. Tissues and bones are shredded to pieces of those close to the lethal range of DIME. Victims may also subsequently contract cancer from the micro-shrapnel embedded in their body tissue within just four to six months.” View Entire Story Here.

In a very telling, (and morally low), public action by the rogue state of Israel, it rufused to sign the 1972 Biological Weapons Conventions. Nor did Israel explain the reasons behind its refusal to sign.

Since 1972, Israel has revealed nothing about its activities in the Biological Weapons field. Israel has never issued a public policy statement on the question of Biological Weapons. It is commonly assumed, however, that Israel maintains an advanced Biological Weapons program, and will not scruple to use it against the Palestinians.

Unless all peoples of conscience & some degree of morality, (Israeli leaders have neither), speak out now against the brutality of the racist state of Israel, the Palestinian people could very well face not only massive “ethnic cleaning,” but the extinction of their race.

Speak on, Bishop Williamson

There is a rather startling hue and cry for the head of Bishop Richard Williamson, the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) bishop who doubts the existence of execution gas chambers in Auschwitz-Birkenau, and whose excommunication, along with that of his three brother bishops, has been lifted by Pope Benedict XVI.

Extraordinary misrepresentations amounting to false witness have been made against this bishop and World War II revisionists in general. Ignorant persons who have never read a revisionist text have concocted wild fantasies about the character of revisionists and what they believe.

Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre,
the founder of the SSPX who was an implacable foe of Judaism, is being made out to be a prelate solely focused on restoring the old Latin Mass, as if that restoration alone, separated from all the ills that beset us, is a panacea. This is an error which Msgr. Lefebvre never indulged. He insisted on the Kingship of Christ in our culture and society. How can such kingship exist when an enormous homicidal gas chamber fraud shackles the minds of millions of Christians?

Some considerable portion of the constituency of the traditional Catholic movement consists of middle class reactionaries and aesthetes almost exclusively concerned with protocol and looking good in the eyes of the Vatican and the world, so as to have at their disposal a lovely liturgy, music, incense, bells and candles. Christ's radical teaching is not part of their
gestalt, and I venture to say they would be embarrassed by Him if He were among them today, since He had a tendency to utter harsh truths about Pharisaic Judaism in very public venues, something considered bad form for those engaged in lobbying the Vatican (and the Zionist media!) today.

Whether or not Bishop Williamson "denies" the existence of execution gas chambers operating in Auschwitz-Birkenau, should not in the least effect his standing in the Church of Christ, or his right to speak, teach and publish, anymore than Neocon Catholics who deny that the recent Israeli massacre of 1300 Palestinians, including 400 children, some of them burned by phosphorous poison gas (irony of ironies), lose any standing in the hierarchy, or their local church, with their abject denial of the Israeli holocaust against Arabs.

God said, "My ways are not your ways," but many of Richard Williamson's detractors imagine God to be as the Talmud envisions him, a subsidiary of the ruling Sanhedrin, the rabbinic judiciary before whom we are all expected to genuflect, swallowing their outrageous exaggerations and lies in order that we may be considered good little boy scouts.

One is free to reject or embrace Bishop Williamson's views, but we should all defend his right to express them, especially in light of the fact that some
"Holocaust survivors" seem to think that their suffering under the Nazis (both real and imagined), gives them a license to massacre the indigenous inhabitants of Palestine with impunity.

If Bishop Williamson's courageous remarks, however ill-timed, cause us to think twice about the alibi for Israeli genocide, then people of good will should be heartened. Instead, we witness the sorry spectacle of prissy Catholic school marms frantically running amok, seeking to smooth the ruffled feathers of
rabbis whose talons are fresh with the blood of Gaza.

Holocaustianity is the last truly believed state religion in the otherwise agnostic West. Auschwitz has replaced the Resurrection as the central ontological event in our history, a substitution easy to prove: no one goes to jail for denying the Resurrection. Meanwhile, revisionists are serving long prison sentences in Europe for doubting the homicidal gas chamber icon. Among those prisoners of conscience is the brilliant, former Max Planck Institute doctoral candidate in chemistry, Germar Rudolf.

Far from complementing Christianity, as the Vatican imagines, Holocaustianity is its deadly rival for the hearts and minds of mankind. The typical "ultimate lesson of the Holocaust" imparted in the synagogues dedicated to the Six Million idol which masquerade as "holocaust history museums," hold that the historic Christian faith, as recorded in the Gospel of John and implemented by the early and medieval church, inevitably fostered the "evil bigotry" that "paved the way for the mass gassings in Auschwitz."

In spite of the thundering anathemas of the prostitute press and the prelates of newchurch, how can any true shepherd submit to this false religion and its Orwellian "Holocaust" Newspeak, which at its core represents the pernicious and perpetual libel of Jesus Christ and His authentic disciples? Stormtroopers leave racist graffiti on Gaza homes

Gaza residents returning to their homes in Zeitun neighborhood find their houses covered with slogans such as 'Death to Arabs,' and 'One down, 999,999 to go.' IDF: Those responsible will be reprimanded

A painful reminder for Operation Cast Lead remained evident in Gaza in the form of blatant, racist graffiti left on houses' walls by IDF soldiers.

Photo: AFP

Residents of the Zeitun neighborhood who returned to their homes once the fighting in the region was over discovered that their walls had been marked with slogans such as "Die you all," Make war not peace," "Death to Arabs," "Arabs must die," and "One down, 999,999 to go."

Photo: AFP

Some of the graffiti was written on the ruins of the homes of the al-Samuni family, who lost dozens of its members during the war.

An IDF spokesman said in response to the report: "This is not how IDF soldiers are educated. This goes against the IDF's ethical code. The matter is being investigated and those responsible for it will be severely reprimanded."

Organized Jewry Opposes Free Speech

It is something of an axiom of Jewish life that "Is it good for the Jews?" remains the litmus test of Jewish communal activity - in other words, interest over principles. A good example is free speech. There can be little doubt that the organized Jewish community sees free speech as a problem because it may be used to criticize the behavior of Jewish organizations and especially Israel.

In Canada the response of the organized Jewish community to recent demonstrations against Israel was to attempt to invoke Canada's restrictions on free speech in order to silence their critics. The Canadian Jewish Congress complained that protests against Israel's incursion into Gaza contained images that were "uncivil, un-Canadian, that demonize Jews and Israelis." They are asking the police to investigate the matter, for referral to the Canadian Human Rights Commission which is in charge of enforcing laws that infringe on free speech. Although the organized Jewish community in Canada has strongly supported the thought crime legislation (see below), Bernie Farber, the head of the CJC, stated "we are firm supporters and believers in the need to be able to demonstrate passionately in free and democratic societies."

Because of the First Amendment, we are still a ways from situation in Canada here in the US. Nevertheless, the ADL has been in the forefront of promoting hate-crime legislation in America, and there can be little doubt that they see the First Amendment as a barrier to their interests in suppressing thoughts and speech critical of Israel and other Jewish interests.

An example of the efforts of the organized Jewish community in the direction of thought control is the Global Anti-Semitism Review Act of 2004. This law created an office of "Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism" within the State Department, headed by Gregg J. Rickman. The act not only requires the State Department to document acts of anti-Semitism, but also to "combat acts of anti-Semitism globally."

The act does not say what the U.S. must do to combat anti-Semitism around the world. I assume combating anti-Semitism wouldn't require any more in the way of lives and money than, say, the war in Iraq - another project spearheaded by Jewish activism on behalf of Israel. But that may be wishful thinking as the same activists are avidly promoting a war with Iran which would likely be even more disastrous.

In any case, the office issued its most recent Contemporary Global Anti-Semitism Report (GASR) in March of last year. The document is an excellent example of Jewish activism that would be unremarkable except that it is now officially ensconced at the highest reaches of the U.S. government. As we shall see, it goes beyond criticism anti-Jewish actions to anti-Jewish attitudes, such as statements about Jewish influence.

The report performs the by now familiar casuistry on Israel as a cause of anti-Semitism. The reader is led to believe that the allegations of Israeli atrocities are overblown propaganda - when the real question is just how Palestinians manage to survive at all in the occupied territories. The recent horrifying incursion into Gaza is only the most recent example. Not only did Israel carry out a starvation-inducing blockade during a ceasefire and an assault that finally provoked Palestinian retaliation, there seems little doubt that Israel committed war crimes - particularly the use of white phosphorus bombs in densely populated civilian areas.

The report complains that Israel's bad behavior is singled out while nobody cares when other governments behave inhumanely. The problem here is that because Israel's bad behavior is in important ingredient in enflaming the entire region, it should interest everyone. And because of the role of the Israel Lobby in shaping American policy, Israel's bad behavior is even more properly the concern of all Americans. American taxpayers are not being asked to massively subsidize other badly behaved governments, nor are they asked to fight and die in wars designed to advance the interests of those governments.

The report graciously states that "responsible criticism" of Israel's policies is acceptable. (Thanks!) But there's a catch: "Those criticiz-ing Israel have a responsibility to consider the effect their actions may have in prompting hatred of Jews."

This, of course, has the effect of proscribing criticism of Israel for fear of being called an anti-Semite. Presumably responsible criticism of Israel does not include books like John Mearsheimer and Steven Walt's The Israel Lobby, despite its academic tone and masterful marshalling of evidence. Jewish activists have routinely accused the authors of resurrecting the Protocols and other vicious acts of anti-Semitism.

As the report notes, Israel is without doubt the source of most anti-Jewish words and deeds in the contemporary world. But the report also points to traditional Jewish stereotypes as a continuing concern: Jews as more loyal to Israel and Jewish interests than the interests of their country of residence; and Jews as having inordinate influence and control over media, the economy or government. For example, according to ADL surveys, substantial percentages of Europeans believe that Jews have too much power in business and in international financial markets. (The percentages range from around 20% in Germany to 60% in Hungary.)

Similarly, ADL surveys indicate that beliefs that Jews are disloyal are common among Europeans, ranging from 39% in France to 60% in Spain. The report notes that "those who believe that Jews are more loyal to Israel than to their own country tend to believe that Jew-ish lobbying groups and individual Jews in influential positions in national governments seek to bend policy toward Israel's interests."

In other words, these anti-Semites are living under the illusion that organizations like AIPAC actually have some influence. And they may even believe that highly placed Jews like Paul Wolfowitz, Elliott Abrams and Richard Perle may have steered U.S. policy in a way that benefited Israel to the detriment of the United States.

As I noted in my review of Mearsheimer and Walt, Pro-Israel activists such as Perle typically phrase their policy recommendations as aimed at benefiting the United States. Perle does this despite evidence that he has a strong Jewish identity and despite the fact that he has typical Jewish concerns, such as anti-Semitism, the Holocaust, and the welfare of Israel. Perle poses as an American patriot despite credible charges of spying for Israel, writing reports for Israeli think tanks and op-eds for the Jerusalem Post, and maintaining close personal relation-ships with Israeli leaders.

Needless to say, the GASR is not a good place to find nuanced or fair treatments of these issues.

The GASR also has a section deploring ethnic nationalist movements of non-Jews, mainly in Eastern Europe, complaining that these movements are commonly anti-Jewish. Typically the anti-Jewish sentiments of such movements stem from the perception that Jews are an elite with considerable power and that this elite opposes the ethno-nationalism of non-Jews-a view that certainly has some basis in reality. (Jewish opposition to ethno-nationalism is restricted to non-Jews in areas where Jews form a Diaspora; it does not, of course, apply to Israel.)

For example, the GASR singles out Roman Catholic institutions as "encouraging anti-Semitism and ethnic and religious chauvinism." Chief among the offenders is a conservative Catholic radio station in Poland, Radio Maryja, cited for claiming that "Jews were pushing the Polish government to pay exorbitant private property restitution claims [for Holocaust reparations], and that Poland's President was `in the pocket of the Jewish lobby.'"

This seems odd, since it would hardly be surprising if indeed Jews and Jewish organizations were pressuring the Polish government on this issue. Indeed, Norman Finkelstein points out:

In negotiations with Eastern Europe, Jewish organizations and Israel have demanded the full restitution of or monetary compensation for the pre-war communal and private assets of the Jewish community. Consider Poland. The pre-war Jewish population of Poland stood at 3.5 million; the current population is several thousand. Yet, the World Jewish Restitution Organization demands title over the 6,000 pre-war communal Jewish properties, including those currently being used as hospitals and schools. It is also laying claim to hundreds of thousands of parcels of Polish land valued in the many tens of billions of dollars. Once again the entire US political and legal establishment has been mobilized to achieve these ends. Indeed, New York City Council members unanimously supported a resolution calling on Poland 'to pass comprehensive legislation providing for the complete restitution of Holocaust assets', while 57 members of Congress (led by Congressman Anthony Weiner of New York) dispatched a letter to the Polish parliament demanding 'comprehensive legislation that would return 100% of all property and assets seized during the Holocaust'.

No sign of Jewish involvement there. Clearly, Radio Marija is way out of line.

Incidentally, Finkelstein has paid dearly for offending the Israel Lobby: blacklisted from employment in the academic world, deported and barred from Israel, and living in a rent-stabilized apartment near his boyhood home in Brooklyn. The Lobby clearly believes in free speech so long as it's in done in one's closet and assuming the neighbors can't hear it. (More on this below.)

Also related to Poland, the GASR notes that Maciej Giertych, European Parlia-ment Deputy and former head of the Political Party League of Polish Families, wrote a booklet "suggesting that Jews were unethical and a `tragic community' because they did not accept Jesus as the Messiah." The report also deplored the ADL's finding that 39% of Polish respondents agreed that "Jews are responsible for the death of Christ."

This is truly amazing. Here we have an official U.S. government report condemning a Polish politician and a large percentage of the Polish people for expressing religious ideas that date from the origins of the Church in antiquity. It's very reminiscent of the situation in Canada where the Christian Heritage Party has been charged with promoting hatred because they published material opposing homosexuality for religious reasons stemming from their reading of the Bible.

Incidentally, the GASR complains that Giertych also claimed that "Jews `create their own ghettos' because they like to separate themselves from others." Residential segregation, of course, was standard Jewish behavior in the Diaspora beginning in the ancient world, and it certainly occurred in Poland well into modern times. Indeed, it continues in many areas of the Diaspora today. But, as with thought crimes generally, truth is no defense.

The GASR coyly states that "While the report describes many measures that foreign governments have adopted to combat anti-Sem-itism, it does not endorse any such measures that prohibit conduct that would be protected under the U.S. Constitution."

Nevertheless, the act requires the compilation of material that would presumably be protected by the US Constitution, in particular "instances of propaganda in government and nongovernment media that attempt to justify or promote racial hatred against Jewish people." When one considers that a great many of the attitudes mentioned in the GASR are either substantially factual or reflect common religious beliefs, they would certainly seem to fall within the protections of the First Amendment.

And it's pretty clear where its heart lies. Indeed, as Ezra Levant has recently described, Jewish organizations and activists have been a major source of support for the Canadian Human Rights Commission, intervening in dozens of cases in favor of plaintiffs.

Levant describes the Simon Weisenthal Center as "one of the most vicious interveners in Canadian Human Rights Commission censorship trials." And Bernie Farber of the Canadian Jewish Congress stated recently that "our anti-hate laws are probably the most underused." Levant comments: "That sounds like Ian Fine, senior counsel for the CHRC, who declared that `there can't be enough laws against hate.' So while the rest of the country is realizing that our government censorship has gone too far, Farber says it goes nowhere far enough; it's underused. He wants more censorship, more government intervention into thoughts and ideas - and the emotion called `hate'."

Clearly, the office of Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism is nothing if not a Jewish activist organization. And it doubtless would love to institute the same kinds of thought control in the U.S. that have made Canada into a police state. Indeed, it would be entirely within the letter of the law that created this monster if the United States were to declare war on Poland as a means of combating anti-Semitism. At least it won't be necessary to invade Canada.

IDF rabbinate disseminated extremist propaganda during Gaza Holocaust

Light unto the Nations
During the fighting in the Gaza Strip, the religious media - and on two occasions, the Israel Defense Forces weekly journal Bamahane - were full of praise for the army rabbinate. The substantial role of religious officers and soldiers in the front-line units of the IDF was, for the first time, supported also by the significant presence of rabbis there.

The chief army rabbi, Brigadier General Avichai Rontzki, joined the troops in the field on a number of occasions, as did rabbis under his command.

Officers and soldiers reported that they felt "spiritually elevated" and "morally empowered" by conversations with rabbis who gave them encouragement before the confrontation with the Palestinians.

But what exactly was the content of these conversations and of the plethora of written material disseminated by the IDF rabbinate during the war? A reservist battalion rabbi told the religious newspaper B'Sheva last week that Rontzki explained to his staff that their role was not "to distribute wine and challah for Shabbat to the troops," but "to fill them with yiddishkeit and a fighting spirit."

An overview of some of the army rabbinate's publications made available during the fighting reflects the tone of nationalist propaganda that steps blatantly into politics, sounds racist and can be interpreted as a call to challenge international law when it comes to dealing with enemy civilians.

Haaretz has received some of the publications through Breaking the Silence, a group of former soldiers who collect evidence of unacceptable behavior in the army vis-a-vis Palestinians. Other material was provided by officers and men who received it during Operation Cast Lead. Following are quotations from this material:

"[There is] a biblical ban on surrendering a single millimeter of it [the Land of Israel] to gentiles, though all sorts of impure distortions and foolishness of autonomy, enclaves and other national weaknesses. We will not abandon it to the hands of another nation, not a finger, not a nail of it." This is an excerpt from a publication entitled "Daily Torah studies for the soldier and the commander in Operation Cast Lead," issued by the IDF rabbinate. The text is from "Books of Rabbi Shlomo Aviner," who heads the Ateret Cohanim yeshiva in the Muslim quarter of the Old City in Jerusalem.

The following questions are posed in one publication: "Is it possible to compare today's Palestinians to the Philistines of the past? And if so, is it possible to apply lessons today from the military tactics of Samson and David?" Rabbi Aviner is again quoted as saying: "A comparison is possible because the Philistines of the past were not natives and had invaded from a foreign land ... They invaded the Land of Israel, a land that did not belong to them and claimed political ownership over our country ... Today the problem is the same. The Palestinians claim they deserve a state here, when in reality there was never a Palestinian or Arab state within the borders of our country. Moreover, most of them are new and came here close to the time of the War of Independence."

The IDF rabbinate, also quoting Rabbi Aviner, describes the appropriate code of conduct in the field: "When you show mercy to a cruel enemy, you are being cruel to pure and honest soldiers. This is terribly immoral. These are not games at the amusement park where sportsmanship teaches one to make concessions. This is a war on murderers. 'A la guerre comme a la guerre.'"

This view is also echoed in publications signed by Rabbis Chen Halamish and Yuval Freund on Jewish consciousness. Freund argues that "our enemies took advantage of the broad and merciful Israeli heart" and warns that "we will show no mercy on the cruel."

In addition to the official publications, extreme right-wing groups managed to bring pamphlets with racist messages into IDF bases. One such flyer is attributed to "the pupils of Rabbi Yitzhak Ginsburg" - the former rabbi at Joseph's Tomb and author of the article "Baruch the Man," which praises Baruch Goldstein, who massacred unarmed Palestinians in Hebron. It calls on "soldiers of Israel to spare your lives and the lives of your friends and not to show concern for a population that surrounds us and harms us. We call on you ... to function according to the law 'kill the one who comes to kill you.' As for the population, it is not innocent ... We call on you to ignore any strange doctrines and orders that confuse the logical way of fighting the enemy."

Human rights organizations have called on Defense Minister Ehud Barak to immediately remove Rabbi Rontzki from his post as chief rabbi.

In response, an IDF spokesman said that: "Overall, letters that are sent to the chief of staff [such as the request for Rontzki's dismissal] are reviewed and an answer is sent to those who make the request, not to the media."

Moroccan organizations in Holland agree to attend Auschwitz memorial

Representatives of Moroccan organizations in the Netherlands were due to attend the annual Auschwitz memorial scheduled for late Sunday morning after receiving requests from the government.

Their decision to attend - a first for the groups - comes amid heightened tensions between Jewish and Arab groups.

During several pro-Palestinian rallies earlier in January, protesters against Israel's military action in the Gaza Strip shouted a well-known anti-Semitic slogan "Hamas, Hamas, put the Jews to the gas".

The Moroccan groups decided to attend the ceremony after a direct invitation from Dutch Integration Minister Eberhard van der Laan called on Thursday.

Van der Laan emphasized the need for Jews and Muslims to "come together by understanding each other's pain and suffering."

"Muslims should understand what al-Nakba is for Muslims, the Shoah is to Jews, and vice versa." van der Laan said.

Also, Dutch MP Harry van Bommel of the leftist Socialist Party will not be present at the Auschwitz commemoration.

He was filmed calling for an "intifada" - uprising - against Israel during a pro-Palestinian rally where protestors also shouted explicit anti-Semitic slogans.

His announcement in the next days that he would be present at the Auschwitz commemoration caused fury among Dutch Jews. Van Bommel ultimately decided not to attend.

The Dutch Auschwitz commemoration is a public, non-denominational ceremony, usually attended by a maximum of two hundred people, Jews and non-Jews.

The annual Jewish commemoration of the Holocaust, which attracts a much larger number of participants, takes place on Yom Hashoah in the spring, on a different site.

During World War II, the Nazis murdered 6 million Jews, more than 1.5 million Jews in the gas chambers of Auschwitz-Birkenau, located in Poland.

Urgent call to expose “Friends of Israel” in Britain

Redress Information & Analysis highlights the influence of Israel’s stooges over the British government and the BBC and calls on readers urgently to help it name and shame members of “Friends of Israel” groups in the country.

With every passing day, the scale of the penetration by Israel’s network of stooges into the heart of the British government and media becomes increasingly apparent.

In just three weeks between 27 December 2008 and 17 January 2009, Israel murdered 1330 Palestinians in Gaza, including 437 children and 108 women, and injured 5450 others. Many of these innocent civilians were killed or maimed by phosphorous and other weapons, the use of which is internationally prohibited in civilian areas.

Yet, the “Friends of Israel” groups in Britain are showing no sign of shame or retreat. On the contrary, they are becoming more brazen in displaying the extent of their grip on the British government and the BBC. Just two examples will illustrate this.

  • On 17 January, the day on which an Israeli tank attacked a United Nations-run school in Beit Lahiya, killing two children aged five and seven, Gordon Brown spewed out one of his most immoral and irresponsible announcements to date. In a desperate attempt to appease the Israeli war criminals and their stooges in Britain, he pledged to redeploy the British navy in the Middle East. “We'll send the Royal Navy to help fight [weapon] smuggling,” he said. Not to escort aid vessels or to defend the defenceless Palestinians of Gaza, but to deprive them of weapons with which they could defend themselves!
  • On 23 January, the BBC, Britain’s state broadcaster, refused to broadcast a national humanitarian appeal for Gaza on behalf of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) – an umbrella organization for 13 humanitarian aid agencies – leaving aid agencies with a potential shortfall of millions of pounds in donations. By convention, if all British broadcasters do not agree to carry a DEC appeal, none does, so the BBC deliberately scuppered the agencies’ attempt to provide urgent humanitarian aid for Gaza’s civilians.

It is a matter of national shame that agents of a foreign power and apologists for murder, in the shape of the “Friends of Israel” network of stooges, have achieved such a level of supremacy in Britain.

This need not be so. By and large, the British public has little sympathy for the racist, genocidal state of Israel.

Therefore, help us put an end to this national disgrace by naming and shaming Friends of Israel in government and other state bodies, political parties, the BBC and other media, think tanks, academic institutions and religious groups. Tell us who they and how you found out that they are Friends of Israel.

If you should harbour any doubt as to whether it is right to expose these “Friends of Israel”, then take a look at the document below to remind yourself of what these people are defending.

Evidence of Israeli war crimes in Gaza and Lebanon

Anger, sadness over fabricated Holocaust story

NEW YORK – It's the latest story that touched, and betrayed, the world.

"Herman Rosenblat and his wife are the most gentle, loving, beautiful people," literary agent Andrea Hurst said Sunday, anguishing over why she, and so many others, were taken by Rosenblat's story of love born on opposite sides of a barbed-wire fence at a concentration camp.

"I question why I never questioned it. I believed it; it was an incredible, hope-filled story."

On Saturday, Berkley Books canceled Rosenblat's memoir, "Angel at the Fence." Rosenblat acknowledged that he and his wife did not meet, as they had said for years, at a sub-camp of Buchenwald, where she allegedly sneaked him apples and bread. The book was supposed to come out in February.

Rosenblat, 79, has been married to the former Roma Radzicky for 50 years, since meeting her on a blind date in New York. In a statement issued Saturday through his agent, he described himself as an advocate of love and tolerance who falsified his past to better spread his message.

"I wanted to bring happiness to people," said Rosenblat, who now lives in the Miami area. "I brought hope to a lot of people. My motivation was to make good in this world."

Rosenblat's believers included not only his agent and his publisher, but Oprah Winfrey, film producers, journalists, family members and strangers who ignored, or didn't know about, the warnings from scholars that his story didn't make sense.

Other Holocaust memoirists have devised greater fantasies. Misha Defonseca, author of "Misha: A Memoire of the Holocaust Years," pretended she was a Jewish girl who lived with wolves during the war, when she was actually a non-Jew who lived, without wolves, in Belgium.

Historical records prove Rosenblat was indeed at Buchenwald and other camps.

"How sad that he felt he had to embellish a life of surviving the Holocaust and of being married for half a century," said Holocaust scholar Michael Berenbaum.

The damage is broad. Publishing, the most trusting of industries, has again been burned by a memoir that fact-checking might have prevented. Berkley is an imprint of Penguin Group (USA), which in March pulled Margaret B. Jones' "Love and Consequences" after the author acknowledged she had invented her story of gang life in Los Angeles. Winfrey fell, as she did with James Frey, for a narrative of suffering and redemption better suited for television than for history.

The damage is deep. Scholars and other skeptics as well as fellow survivors fear that Rosenblat's fabrications will only encourage doubts about the Holocaust.

"I am very worried because many of us speak to thousands of student each year," says Sidney Finkel, a longtime friend of Rosenblat's and a fellow survivor. "We go before audiences. We tell them a story and now some people will question what I experienced."

"This was not Holocaust education but miseducation," Ken Waltzer, director of Jewish Studies at Michigan State University, said in a statement.

"Holocaust experience is not heartwarming, it is heart rending. All this shows something about the broad unwillingness in our culture to confront the difficult knowledge of the Holocaust," Waltzer said. "All the more important then to have real memoirs that tell of real experience in the camps."

Among the fooled, at least the partially fooled, was Berenbaum, former director of the United States Holocaust Research Institute at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington. Berenbaum had been asked to read the manuscript by film producer Harris Salomon, who still plans an adaptation of the book.

Berenbaum's tentative support — "Crazier things have happened," he told The Associated Press last fall — was cited by the publisher as it initially defended the book. Berenbaum now says he saw factual errors, including Rosenblat's description of Theresienstadt, the camp from which he was eventually liberated, but didn't think of challenging the love story.

"There's a limit to what I can verify, because I was not there," he says. "I can verify the general historical narrative, but in my research I rely upon the survivors to present the specifics of their existence with integrity. When they don't, they destroy so much and they ruin so much, and that's terrible."

"I was burned," he added. "And I have to read books more skeptically because I was burned."

Pass The Sick Bag - More Jew Lies

Pope rehabilitates Holocaust denier

Pope rehabilitates four bishops. One British-born bishop doubts the extent of the Holocaust Legend.

Official Records From International Red Cross PROVE "HOLOCAUST" Was a Fraud

RECENTLY RELEASED RECORDS, SEALED FOR YEARS, SHOW "CONCENTRATION CAMP" DEATH TOTALS OF ONLY 271,301.

SIX MILLION JEWS DID NOT DIE; THE WHOLE CLAIM WAS A COMPLETE FABRICATION

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Pope Benedict Saturday rehabilitated a traditionalist bishop who denies the Holocaust, despite warnings from Jewish leaders that it would seriously harm Catholic-Jewish relations and foment anti-Semitism.

The Vatican said the pope issued a decree lifting the excommunication of four traditionalist bishops who were thrown out of the Roman Catholic Church in 1988 for being ordained without Vatican permission.

One of the four bishops, the British-born Richard Williamson, has made a number of statements denying the full extent of the Nazi Holocaust of European Jews, as accepted by mainstream historians.

In comments to Swedish television broadcast Wednesday, he said "I believe there were no gas chambers" and only up to 300,000 Jews perished in Nazi concentration camps, instead of six million.

Before the excommunication was lifted, leaders in the Jewish community, including groups of Holocaust survivors, said such a move would be a dangerous blow to half a century of interfaith dialogue.

Rome's chief rabbi said Williamson's rehabilitation would open "a deep wound."

CRIF, the umbrella group of French Jewish organizations, called him "a despicable liar whose only goal is to revive the centuries-old hate against Jews."

Catholic Bishop Richard Williamson Denies 'Holocaust' Fraud -No Gas Chambers, '6 million' figure a gross exaggeration -German prosecutors launch probe

Berlin - German prosecutors said Friday they had launched a probe against a controversial British bishop on suspicion of inciting racial hatred for comments he made about the Holocaust on Swedish television.

A spokesperson for the public prosecutor's office in the southern city of Regensburg said it had opened an investigation against Richard Williamson, 68, for remarks he made in an interview broadcast this week.

"I believe there were no gas chambers... I think that 200 000 to 300 000 Jews perished in Nazi concentration camps but none of them by gas chambers," said Williamson during an interview with the SVT channel.

"There was not one Jew killed by the gas chambers. It was all lies, lies, lies!"

Historians have established that six million Jews were murdered by Nazi Germany during World War II including vast numbers by systematic extermination in gas chambers.

This week, Pope Benedict XVI reportedly decided to cancel the excommunication of four bishops who were consecrated in 1998 by the conservative French bishop Marcel Lefebvre, including Williamson.

The pope has already signed the decree lifting the excommunication, which will be made public later in the week, according to the Italian report Thursday which the Vatican neither confirmed nor denied.

Lefebvre, who died in 1991, was excommunicated in 1988 by pope Jean Paul II for having consecrated the bishops in defiance of the Vatican's authority.

Since assuming office in April 2005, Benedict has made great efforts to heal the schism with the more traditionalist Catholic movement.

Lars-Goran Svensson, the Swedish programme's producer, said the interview had been pre-recorded in Germany last November and its airing at this time was "pure coincidence." -

The 150,000 Jewish Nazis in Hitler's Army

Ruth Gledhill, religion correspondent of The Times, provided an inadvertent lesson in the importance of source critical revisionism on 23rd January. This week she has devoted several Times Online articles to attacking the traditionalist Catholic Society of St Pius X, which after many years of excommunication has been readmitted to the Roman Catholic communion.

Jewish groups have objected to this rapprochement between the Vatican and the Society, charging inter alia that the Society has promoted anti-semitism and that one of its bishops, Richard Williamson, is a "holocaust denier". Ms Gledhill details these charges, and provides a link to a Swedish television exposé of the Society broadcast last week. Bishop Williamson is reported to be facing investigation under Germany's notorious anti-revisionist laws, which have already imprisoned scientist Germar Rudolf, publisher Ernst Zundel, and lawyer Sylvia Stolz.

Not content with such attacks, Ms Gledhill descends to guilt by association, but quickly embarrasses herself and her newspaper. After noting that the Society has a seminary in Bavaria, she adds the parenthetical observation that "a chief of police in Bavaria has incidentally recently survived a stabbing by a neo-Nazi. The officer has been fighting fascism for years and in July his force dug up a body that had been buried in a Nazi flag."

Ms Gledhill is referring to Alois Mannichl, police chief in the Bavarian town of Passau, who was injured in a stabbing at his home in mid-December. The case was swiftly exploited by German politicians, who insisted that all Bavarian children would be forced to visit a concentration camp site as part of their school curriculum.

Yet within days of this "educational" announcement, it was revealed that the attack on Mr Mannichl may have had nothing to do with politics at all. It turns out that the police chief was stabbed with a cake knife from his own kitchen, and investigators are looking into the possibility that the affair may have been a domestic incident, with the "neo-Nazi" story invented afterwards.

Had Ms Gledhill researched the facts of the case before rushing into print, she would have discovered that scepticism about the attack was already published in German newspapers more than two weeks before her own uncritical and outdated article appeared. Such scepticism has now been officially endorsed: the German authorities have confirmed that they are no longer looking for the mythical tattooed skinhead supposedly responsible for the stabbing.

Perhaps Ms Gledhill and other Times journalists (as well as Bavarian politicians) will learn from this case that a sceptical approach to sources is necessary, especially when dealing with controversial historical and political topics. But perhaps that would be too much to expect, especially in a Europe which accepts that writers should be imprisoned for such scepticism.

update:
Ms Gledhill's counterpart at the Daily Telegraph, Catholic journalist and author Damian Thompson, has now added a hysterical column stating that he does not "wish to belong to the same church" as Bishop Williamson or anyone who refuses to condemn his Holocaust revisionism. Further confirmation that Holocaustianity is now the official European religion, and revisionism the 21st century heresy.

Jewissh Ritual Mass Murder in Gaza

Many people around the world, especially Arabs, have been looking to the Obama administration, hoping that his call for change will extend to fairness for Palestinians. They might as well hope for rain in the middle of the Arabian Desert in July, notes Paul J. Balles.

The United Nations says some 50,800 Palestinians are now homeless and 400,000 are without running water.

Israel, in a disgustingly conciliatory mood, says it will allow 143 trucks loaded with humanitarian aid into Gaza, plus 60,000 litres of fuel.

Disgustingly conciliatory because they kept aid from getting to the needy long before the latest conflict and all during it. Instead of starving Gaza into submission, Israel decided to slaughter as many as their US-supplied sophisticated armaments could manage.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health reports 1,314 Palestinians were killed during the conflict, including more than 400 children. More than 5,000 people were injured, nearly 2,000 of them children.

All of 13 Israelis were killed in what Israel consistently calls self-defence. Nine of those were military, four of whom were killed by friendly fire. When Israel called a ceasefire on Saturday [17 January], it brazenly announced it had met its war aims.

Hamas declared a "great victory" over Israel when it announced its own truce. Was that Israel’s aim? Or did it include the disappearance of entire neighbourhoods as reported by BBC's Christian Fraser?

"Isn't it Time for a War Crimes Tribunal?" headlines Robert Fisk, adding: It's a wrap, a doddle, an Israeli ceasefire just in time for Barack Obama to have a squeaky-clean inauguration with all the world looking at the streets of Washington rather than the rubble of Gaza."

Fisk also points out "history was quite forgotten. The Hamas rockets were the result of the food and fuel siege; Israel broke Hamas's own truce on 4 and 17 November 2008. Forgotten is the fact Hamas won the 2006 elections, although Israel has killed a clutch of the victors."

Since September 2005, Gaza has been nothing but a refugee camp. Israel simply transferred the Israeli settlers who had been in Gaza to the West Bank. This expanded the Israeli occupation and left the Palestinians isolated in Bantustans.

It's obvious simply from their behaviour that the Israelis want to have Egypt annex and take over the responsibility for controlling Gaza. At the same time, they want to force an exodus of West Bank Palestinians to Jordan.

Noam Chomsky has noted: "… Gaza should be turned into a cage, a prison basically, with Israel attacking it at will, and meanwhile in the West Bank we'll take what we want. There was nothing secret about it."

Chomsky supported his conclusion by referring to a speech by Ehud Olmert in May 2006: "He simply announced to a joint session of Congress and to rousing applause, that the historic right of Jews to the entire land of Israel is beyond question."

How will the Israelis accomplish the ethnic cleansing of Palestine? Chomsky, again, is quite clear: "... they have sufficient military control over the West Bank to terrorize the population into passivity."

Meanwhile, the West and the corrupt minions among Palestinians, like Mahmoud Abbas, talk of ridiculous ideals of a two-state solution. Salah Bardaweel, spokesman for Hamas, reports that “Abbas, the acting Palestinian Authority chief, played a key role in the war and in assassinating Hamas's senior political leaders, through his spies in the coastal strip”.

Despite its propaganda, Israel has never made a serious effort to negotiate toward a Palestinian state. When Israel speaks about Hamas using its ceasefires to rearm itself with its ineffective rockets through tunnels to Egypt, it is projecting. It is Israel which has been stalling serious negotiations in order to further terrorize the Palestinians.

"The only thing Israel has proved it can do militarily better than anyone else," writes Yvonne Ridley, "is kill innocent women and children. And in its genocidal drive to wipe the Palestinian people from existence it has dealt itself a fatal blow."

Chris Hedges reminds the US that the Palestinian reaction to Israeli occupation should be familiar to Israelis:

Tzipi Livni, Israel’s foreign minister, says that the Israeli government will have no dealings with Hamas terrorists. But Tzipi Livni’s father was Eitan Livni, the chief operations officer of the terrorist Irgun Zvai Leumi, which fought against the British occupation of Palestine. The underground Jewish group set off a massive bomb in the King David Hotel in Jerusalem, a blast in which 91 victims were killed, including four Jews. These Jewish terrorists hanged two British sergeants and booby-trapped their corpses. Irgun, together with the terrorist Stern gang, massacred 254 Palestinians in 1948 in the village of Deir Yassin. Tell me the moral difference between Irgun Zvai Leumi, the Stern gang and Hamas. I fail to see one.

It’s not enough that Israel has become the best-armed and largest gang of terrorist thugs in the world. Anyone aware of what happened in the UN with a ceasefire proposal to be voted on must have realized that Israel controls America when Olmert had Bush call off a vote by the US, which drafted the proposal.

Why? “I [Olmert] spoke with him [Bush]; I told him: You can't vote for this proposal. He said: listen, I don't know, I didn't see, don't know what it says. I told him: I know, and you can't vote for it! He then instructed the secretary of state, and she did not vote for it."

Writing in Counterpunch, Brian Cloughley says: "The worst of all the barbarians who are killing children and their mothers and fathers in Gaza are the Israeli pilots who mercilessly bomb houses occupied by terrified families. And they are staunchly supported by the House of Representatives of the United States of America." The US Senate has also supported the savagery. Cloughley adds:

These pilots, these vile little war-gamers of the skies, these latter-day examples of what Tom Wolfe called “The Right Stuff”, can zoom over towns full of traumatized children and happily heave and hurl their bombs and rockets to kill yet more Palestinian kids without the remotest chance of being shot down. How heroic; how truly gladiatorial. How contemptible.

Amnesty International has accused Israel of war crimes, saying its use of white phosphorus in Gaza was indiscriminate and illegal. When a young burn victim in Vietnam was photographed running down a road in flame, Americans protested vigorously. When Israel burns Gaza’s children with phosphorous, the media ignores it.

Obama's unbridled support for Israel doesn't bode well. He's been doing everything he can to play both sides of the political spectrum, and the political spectrum in the US is all one-sided when it comes to Israel. The secretary of state is as mesmerized by Israel as is the US Congress and the administration.
