Nobody wants Joseph's 'House of horror'

Authorities in Austria have been unable to sell the home of incest father Josef Fritzl together with its gruesome cellar where he imprisoned his daughter for 24 years.

Three other properties owned by 74-year-old Fritzl - now serving life for rape and murder - have been auctioned off with some of the profits going to his daughter Elisabeth, 43, and the six surviving incest children he fathered with her in the cellar dungeon.

The rest of the cash has gone to pay off the creditors of Fritzl who was declared a bankrupt shortly before his trial in March this year.

But the rambling home in Amstetten remains sealed with police 'crime scene' tape and the garden is overgrown as speculation mounts that it might have to be demolished rather than sold.

Fritzl, who was found guilty of negligent homicide at his trial for failing to get help for one of his incest children who died in the darkness, has 20 creditors plus the Austrian government listed as creditors on his insolvency file 'Josef Fritzl Rentals and Leasing.'

Three rental properties he owned were sold in the early summer but no details were given of prices.

But Walter Anzboeck, the lawyer dealing with the bankruptcy, said everyone was "very happy" with the outcome.

The Amstetten house sitting over his secret dungeon has 66 rooms in all - including the chambers of the terrible dungeon he constructed.

There were between ten and 15 tenants living in the house during Elisabeth's ordeal who all claimed they knew nothing of her terrible martyrdom beneath them.

Fritzl was born in the house and lived in a penthouse-style complex at the top of it in 12 rooms for himself, his wife Rosemarie and three of his incest children who he claimed had been dumped on his doorstep by his daughter who, he told police, was a runaway and unable to cope with them.

Authorities vet all applications to purchase it and have rejected some offers to turn it into a ghoulish museum.
