Vatican, Catholic bishops and Hizbullah allied in condemnation of Israeli TV show

Vatican, Catholic bishops, and Hezbollah unite in condemnation of Israeli TV show. Israeli Jewish TV comedian suggested that Jesus died at young age because he was too fat. Now Christians understand how Muslims were upset when a Zionist-controlled Danish newspaper published cartoon depicting the Prophet Mohammed as a bomb-carrying terrorist.

Catholic bishops in the Holy Land expressed outrage on Friday over what they called "repulsive attacks" on Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary after an Israeli TV program spoofed them. Hizbullah issued a statement on Thursday condemning the show. "We, the members of the Assembly of the Catholic Bishops in the Holy Land deplore and condemn with utter dismay the repulsive attacks on our lord Jesus Christ and on his mother, the blessed Virgin Mary, carried out on Channel 10 of the Israeli television," a statement by the bishops said.

Hizbullah said it was "deeply concerned with the insults against the blessed Virgin Mary and one of our great prophets Jesus Christ."

"Hizbullah puts this heinous offense in the hands of all defenders of human rights and freedom of belief," it said. "Zionists should put an end to their racism and their ridicule of religious symbols."

Earlier this week, the private channel broadcast a series of skits, one of which suggested the Virgin Mary "was impregnated at the age of 15 by a school friend." Another said Jesus died at a young age "because he was fat" and that his excess weight would have made it impossible for him to walk on water.

In the program, Israeli comedian Yair Shlein joked that since Christians "deny the Holocaust, then I want to deny Christianity." Following protests, he later apologized to Arab Israeli Christian dignitaries.

The bishops said they viewed "this recent incident in the larger context of continuous attacks against Christians throughout Israel over the years" and called for an official investigation.

"It is unconceivable that such incidents have to occur in Israel which hosts some of the holiest shrines of Christianity," said the statement, signed by the Latin patriarch of Occupied Jerusalem as well as Armenian, Chaldean, Greek, Maronite and Syrian Catholic bishops.

The pontiff is scheduled to visit Israel in May. But the Vatican said Friday it has formally complained to the Israeli government over what it called an "offensive act of intolerance."

A statement from the Vatican press office said its representative in Israel complained to the government about the show, which was broadcast recently on private Channel 10, one of Israel's three main TV stations.

The statement said the government quickly assured the Holy See that it would intervene to interrupt the transmission and get the broadcaster to publicly apologize. - AFP, with The Daily Star

Funny, I don't see Christian rioting, burning stuff, killing people because of this 'insult'.

In addition to which, the context of the two events is not the same. The Danish cartoon was a commentary of modern day militant Islam, whereas this spoof, is an abortive attempt to poke fun.

Hezbollah's commentary is also nothing more than an opportunity to pile on to the people they hate with a passion. Militant Islam is equally intolerant of Christianity as they are of Judaism. So their sudden rallying to Christianity smacks of hypocrisy.

That being said, the fall out from this story, is what will highlight how out of touch Militant Islam, if not Islam as whole is.

There will be no riots or general chaos by Christians in response to this. Condemnation by the Pope, Christian Leaders and Christians as a whole is justified, but using it as an excuse to act like an animal is not.

Perhaps Islam can learn from how Christians comport themselves, and realise that while one may not agree with what is being stated, that the person making the statement is entitled to say what they wish, as long as it does not violate the rights of anyone else.

'Perhaps Islam can learn from how Christians comport themselves'

Perhaps Islam can learn from the inquisition? Hitler? Perhaps Islam can learn from those Christians who bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki? and....learn from 2000 years of Christian genocides against Africans, Asians, native Americans? and... I hope you're a good welder as for the rest I can only guess

Rule 1 When you don't have an argument:
Resort to personal attacks

Rule 1 When you don't have an argument and it relates to Islam's violence, refer to activities of Christians over TWO THOUSAND YEARS AGO.

News Flash WhisTleblower: When the cartoon of Muhammed aired less than FIVE YEARS AGO, Muslims threatened to burn down the Newspapers building, threated to murder the cartoonist. Islamic leaders issued Fatwa's calling for the death of the cartoonists.

Now, I ask you: It's 2 days since this news piece broke....where are the Christians Rioting over this?

Where are the Christians threatening to murder the actors, writers, producers or what ever for making this program?

Where are the Christian Leaders calling for the assasination of these people?

That's right, THERE IS NONE!!

You really should try to take the blinkers off, the view is far more spectacular.

Nice Try....but you Fail!

Rule Three: When you don't have any other arguments, deflect.

I asked you to show me where Christians are acting out like Muslims did when the cartoon of Mohammed ran.

To this point, all you've done is point to occurances from 2000 years ago, and post links to propoganda sites that are made by people like you.

It's obvious that you're an ignorant buffoon who'd rather deflect than address the points of contention you made.

So, once again, for the 3rd time please show me, and the rest of the world where Christians are threatening source of this 'insult' with death, threatening to burn down their offices, and where Christian Leaders are issuing death warrants.

And do try to stick to the issue, spinning they way you are will make your tummy ill.

Joe I'm not attacking you personally neither am I deflecting anything. Open your ears carefully by just this one example: Christian Hillary Clinton THREATENED Iran with obliteration, countless Christians daily insult Muslims and their Holy Books...

Yes actually you did...

But thats not the issue.

Here's the point you're missing.

We have two incidents in the last 5 years, both incidents insult important figures in two religious faiths.

Proponents of One faith, Riot, burn things, issue death threats and have their Religious Leaders issue edicts demanding the deaths of people involved in one incident.

Proponents of the other faith, do nothing. They realise that people are entitled to their opinion, how ever misguided the opinion may be to the faithful.

Now, I ask you once again, which faith is better aligned with the world we live in TODAY. Not 2000 years ago. TODAY.

The Religious Leaders of the 2nd group, vocalise their dismay, which is reasonable, there are no death warrants issued. No rallying of the masses to do greivous harm to those responsible. None.

Yet somehow, to you, the two faiths are no different from each other.
